ABOUT US & GOING ORGANIC

Farming.

We have been farming now for many years.  We started out with a riding school on 25 acres down the south coast. We ran camps for children, not only teaching them to ride but also to care for their horse.  Each child was given their own horse to look after and groom.

We moved to Rocky Glen on to a 2,500 acre property where we farmed commercially.  For the first few years we did what everyone else did.  However, Rose got very sick when we were helping the neighbours dip their sheep.  Thinking it was only a day where she was off colour, we didn't take much notice.  However, when helping with shearing and subsequently another dipping of sheep, the problem got considerable worse. 

We then thought there had to be a better way.  We wanted a healthy lifestyle.  We decided to farm organically and the more we went into it, the clearer it became.  If the pastures were contaminated with man made fertilisers, then it was obvious that the animals were.  We then embarked on not only putting the cattle under an organic system but also our sheep that we had for wool and meat. The drought came and to make better use of our stock, we started an organic home delivery service for our meat in Sydney, just on 7 hours away. We were committed to providing safe food for our customers.

We also expanded and bought this 1,000 acres and ran the two farms together.  However, they were 2 hours driving distance apart, so we needed to spend a few days there and a few days here as 4 hours driving in a day took too much time out of the day.

What about our own  healthy lifestyle

By this time, we were very committed to making sure that everything was clean and green as the saying goes.  However what about ourselves?   We could source other organic products like bread, chickens milk etc but by now we had learned about the cancer producing toxins in our everyday home and bath products.

The more we learned, the more it became apparent that there is no way, we can completely eliminate the toxins from our lifestyle. They are in everything we come into contact with everyday.  However, we certainly could make sure, that we were taking in as little as possible.

Non-toxic household products

From this point on, we not only organically sourced our food, we made sure we used products that didn't contain toxins in our bathroom and household products.  After all, we were giving our animals minerals and vitamins and making sure that their pasture was free of all contaminents, surely we should do the same for ourselves.

The result has been amazing to say the least.  Not only do we feel better in ourselves, we have the drive and stamina of people at least 20 years younger than ourselves.  As you can see from Our Other Ventures apart from the internet business, we run a horse stud, bed and breakfast as well as farming.  Not bad for people in their seventies and sixties!  You owe it to yourself and your family to ensure that you are having a healthy lifestyle.
