AT HOME WITH US IN APRIL, 2007

So sorry you missed out the March Newsletter but I have been seriously ill, as Vic told you.  Thank you to all the people who sent well wishes, it really helped to know that you cared and that your prayers were with us.

You will note that this is April's news. So you are really behind!   The reason being that Vic got sick, then was bitten by a spider with very adverse effects and I had a relapse.  We are now hoping that our enforced rests are over, as we both recover.

For our online family,  who celebrated Easter, we do hope that it was a happy time for you.  Sorry for not sending out well wishes, but I wasn't able to have my laptop.  Please accept our best wishes now.

What is happening on the homefront?  We have had some good rain, followed by another shower or two.  Some of the deciduous plants that were thinking of shutting down, have got a few more green leaves.  Talk about confused!

The little foal called Possum got branded and is a delight.  She has a soft nature and whinnies when she sees Vic coming to feed her.  I have only just been allowed out of bed, so I can't get over there yet.  Vic has been patting her all over and she has come to like being brushed and stroked.

While I was in bed at home, our cat Tarsha came and kept me company all day until her bedtime.  However, I know she thinks she shared her bed with me, not the other way around!

The garden has been neglected for quite awhile and as soon as we can, we will need to get in and rescue the poor little flowers that are trying to struggle through the weeds.  Still, that will be a pleasant autumn job.

An oat crop is starting to come up and as long as we get some more rain, then it may make it for the stock to eat.  Last year, it didn't, so only time will tell on that one.

Our granddaughter Abby who is 5 went to her first horse show before I got sick.  Her little pony looks like the type that used to be drawn in the Thelwell books.  Fat, shaggy mane and carrying a great thick bear type coat and that is in summer!  Anyway, her mum washed her and plaited her up.  Nan had to plait the tail.  We put little blue and white ribbons through her mane and tail.  Anyway, she got two thirds in her two classes.  Although she told me confidentially, that she would have liked the blue ribbon ..........doesn't everyone?

Vic has done some more of the fencing to keep the agisted cows in their side of the paddock.  Still more to do, as it is about 1.5 kilometres of fencing and with him trying to do everything, it has been going slower than he anticipated.  Still, the part he has done is electrified and the cows are certainly a lot more wary.  It was funny, when we had our own cattle, Vic put in some starposts but hadn't put the wire in.  Nearly all the herd would walk through the starposts to the other side, except one little heifer.  She would run up and down the fenceline, convinced that there was wire in it.  She had been bitten before with an electric wire and there was no way, she would cross through the star posts.  She would wait patiently until the herd came back and then go off with them again.  Wouldn't it be great if they were all like that, you could save so much on wire!

Anyway, must go and do the rest of the newsletter, as it is so late.   Until next time.
