What's Happening At Our Place August 07.
This month has been a series of ups and downs.
First of all, we have had really great rain and everything is looking very green. The grasses are now coming up and taking over the weeds, which is good. The horses though, keep looking wistfully over the fence insisting that they need feeding. We have been giving them smaller quantities lately seeing the grass is up.
Tarsha our only cat now had an enlargement on her eye. So we took her to the vet where it was removed under surgery. Thankfully it proved non cancerous. However, she still keeps her eye closed sometimes after getting the ointment in it. The bill from the vet proved to be pretty eye opening to us at $500.00! Mmm missed our calling there obviously.
Just as everything was going well, Jen rang up. Annie, the smallest child had taken a convulsion and was in hospital. Flu is running rampant here and the little one had managed to pick it up. Three or four children have died here in Australia with the flu. That was a pretty worrying time as they had been visiting their other grandmother and were seven hours from home. Annie was in hospital for a few days until her temperature was under control.
Vic and myself went down to Sydney for an 80th birthday party of an old friend (well you can tell by the age right?) and to meet the following day with family. It was great as two of the cousins used to live two doors up from me when I was growing up and even though we haven't seen each other for quite a few years, it was as if no time had passed at all.
When we got home Vic managed to get the flu. I was the only one who didn't have it but I had a really good dose months ago. Vic gave me a scare the other day. He had a mole removed from his chest in the afternoon. At 10 p.m. he came to tell me that he was bleeding. He looked as though he was either shot or stabbed. There was blood everywhere and dripping onto his pants. I freaked out and gave him some towels to keep the pressure on. As there were no doctors on at the hospital (they all have the flu as well) the ambulance guys treated it. Everything okay now.
We are going through a revamp and are planning setting up an equestrian centre. The area is growing and as we will be offering agistment with use of all facilities like arena, round yard, wash bay etc. We will be putting up all the details on www.chittering-gullystud.com under agistment for ponies. We already do thoroughbred spelling. We are planning also to run horse clinics for the people who want to learn how to handle their horses.
We have moved some of the standard roses from where they were as a large palm tree kept sending up babies. As there must be 1000's of seeds in the earth, we have decided to just remove the garden and keep mowing the lawn. The roses have moved into their new home very well. We are working off a plan by Edna Walling who was well before her time in garden design.
Well better go now. Hope this finds you all well.
Kind regards,
Rose & Vic
