What's Happening At Our Place June 08

Well, the rain has finally come at last!  Good rain for crops to get started.  A lot of farmers sowed dry and prayed that the rain would come in time.

None of it has been so heavy that it has washed away any topsoil, just good soaking rain.

The vegetable garden is starting to sprout with spinach (never did like Popeye) but it is good for you, beans, peas etc.  Now as long as little Peter Rabbit doesn't come along and eat them all will be well!

We have moved several of the roses into the new rose garden and they seem happy as they are sprouting already after being cut back for the move.

The front garden has been denuded of almost everything.  We are wanting to plant a hedge of a pretty pink bush rose we have out the back.  We have taken about 24 cuttings and all are shooting along with some other cuttings of other roses, that are to go out the back.  No, we don't have great mounds of potting mix.  We just use the earth we have.  Now we can here the purists saying No! you can't do that.  Well, it seems to work.  When you live 70k's from the nearest place to buy potting mix, you improvise.  We do dip the plants in honey before putting them in though.

We moved a grevillea bush.  Time will tell if it will survive.  They don't like being cut back much less being moved.  It is a very old bush and we are hoping that it will work as we have another one also in the wrong place.  The birds love these bushes.

We are now renovating the new kitchen.  We removed the bench with the sink in it.  Well it was supposed to NEVER EVER come out was it?  Everytime we thought it was free, we would find another half dozen nails or screws.  Now we don't have earthquakes, so I don't know why it was so firmly entrenched!

It will be good when I can get a kitchen sink again.
