AT HOME WITH US IN OCTOBER, 2006.

Well since last month, the filly Possum has grown into her legs and is quite a pretty little thing.  However, she is definitely her own boss and will accept us on her terms.  When the horses are called in for their morning feed, she can now keep up with the bigger ones. She often causes mayhem at feeding times, by trying to see what is in each feed bowl.

Of course, Australia will soon stop for our biggest horse race The Melbourne Cup.  People overseas often are amazed that a horse race can stop a nation!  However, it is true, it doesn't matter where you are, or what you are doing, everyone stops to watch the race.  I guess, it is the old colonial spirit.  Luncheons, are often held, and people can support some very worthwhile charities just by going and having lunch and watching the race.  Just remember, if any of our horses ever get there and win, you can say, yes, we are on their mailing list.

No rain still and the deep dams that have been holding on are starting to evaporate at the rate of knots.  We have had unseasonal hot winds for this time of year.  We used to get winds in August but never at this time of the year.  These hot gusty winds are drying out what is left of any pasture.  The whole country is brown.  If you want a book at a cheap price and help us out with getting watering points out for the wild animals, then please Click Here

Our pet galah Bubblegum, so called because when you put bubblegum into your mouth it is pink and after chewing it turns a grey colour.  The children named her.......I certainly couldn't think that one up!  Anyway, we have had her since she fell out of her nest.  Our son thinks her mother pushed her!  She couldn't fly, so we took her home and fed her high protein baby cereal, which she instantly spat back at us.  Obviously, she was didn't think that passed for regurgitated food.  We then fed her oat flakes that you make porridge out of.  She thought this was good.  Anyway, she finally went on to solid food and we have had her now for 25 years, and she is a big part of our family.  Anyway, the other week, we noticed a lump under her tail and took her to the vet.  It appears that she was eating all the sunflower seeds out of her wild bird mix and that made a big fatty lump.  She now can only have up to 5 seeds of sunflowers per week!  Boy was she bad tempered as she went through withdrawal.  She was also pretty annoyed about the fact that she had to wear a collar.  I have put a picture below.

Bubblegum

As you can see she looks a sight and all her feathers are ruffled.  The vet said that the way she could tell she was under the anaesthetic was because she stopped purring.  She normally sleeps with one of our cats and can purr with the best of them.  She is now perfectly alright and often helps with the computer, well thats my excuse for mistyping!
