You are often allowed to claim yourself as the author, but look very carefully to see what restrictions are on the product. These restrictions are usually contained in your licence that you get with the website, source files etc. Make sure you print out your licence and keep it in a safe place. PLR gives you the right to sell Master Resell Rights to a product.
As other marketers will also download these products, you may ask what hope have I got. Actually quite a bit. One of the best PLR products you can get is where only a limited number are sold. You can either just sell it as it is, completely restructure the content or only a bit. Most other marketers download products, but often don't do anything with them. They sit collecting dust on their hard drive. Most come with their own website, sales page and images. So, it is the easiest way to get started.
